A FORMER Ukip councillor – who was suspended by the party for tweeting an offensive joke – has joined the City Independents.
Richard Broughan will now sit with council leader Dave Conway's group on Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Mr Broughan was elected as a Ukip councillor for Abbey Hulton and Townsend last May, but was suspended after he tweeted a joke about migrants who died in a refrigerated lorry.
