And people really went along with that. "But ever since he's been a dead loss. What's the point of being...

PORT Vale were blessed with terrific wingers in the 1990s, thanks to manager John Rudge. In fact, Rudgie's wide men helped provide one of the greatest nights in the club's history in February 1996 when Steve Guppy and Jon McCarthy took Everton apart in the FA Cup, helping the Valiants dump out the cup holders 2-1 in a Vale Park replay. But McCarthy and Guppy weren't the only wizards of the wing at Vale. When McCarthy was sold to Birmingham City for £1.5m in 1997, Rudge moved swiftly...

WITH such misery in the world I was glad to leave it behind for a while. After all, when you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you.Any show with Flavia and Vincent, tango world champions, features plenty of stunning dancing and their final tour is no exception – the couple sparkle as much as their costumes. But I hadn't expected the depth and complexity of emotion. The simple storyline of an old man, George, looking through his attic and finding memories was filled with universal...

THE last eight seasons have been among the best I can ever remember in all my years as a Stoke City supporter. After 23 years down in the dumps, including seven tortured seasons in the third tier of English football, it has been a delight to watch our team back in the top flight. When we were promoted in 2008 I swore I was going to enjoy the experience of the Potters being in the Premier League, even if it was only for one brief season, and I am still making the most of that pledge. I'm as...
